Production Plant

Omega Chemicals, Inc.'s production facilities are located on a 17 acre site on US Highway 29 in Spartanburg County, SC.

The plant and the warehouse are identical 28 feet tall ceiling pre-stressed concrete buildings separated 25 feet apart with explosion proof electrical wiring. They are connected to Omega’s wastewater treatment facility.

The laboratory and the boilers are housed in a separate 12 feet tall ceiling concrete block building.

Production Equipment

PRESSURE REACTORS
  • Omega’s three (3) 3000 gallon reactors are constructed of 316 stainless steel, rated for 100 psig to 140 psig, with 20  horsepower, two speed, four blade agitators.
  • The reactors are mounted on load cells and can also be charged using super-sacks.
  • The reactors can be heated to 550°F - 650°F with heat transfer fluid, hot oil, and with their own heat exchanger for  cooling through 4 zones of half-pipe coil jacketing, and the vessels also have 2 sets of concentric internal coils divided into 2 vertical zones which are heated with 377°F steam, cooling with cooling tower water.
  • The three reactors each have a 12 inch diameter, 6 foot tall, overhead vapor line connected to a vertical condenser and 300 gallon receiver.
  • One reactor has a packed distillation column (20 HETP) connected to its vertical overhead condenser. It is equipped with a reflux splitter and two (2) 300 gallon receivers.
  • All three reactors are connected to individual liquid ring vacuum pumps to 25mm Hg absolute pressure 29 inches Hg vacuum, and a steam jet/liquid ring vacuum pump system to 2mm Hg absolute pressure.

  • ATMOSPHERIC REACTORS
  • Omega’s 750 gallon reactor is constructed of 316 stainless steel, rated for atmospheric pressure. It is heated with steam up to 406°F with two sets of concentric internal coils and mixed with 5 horsepower, two speed agitator with a single axial flow mixing blade.
  • Omega’s 1200 gallon reactor is constructed of 316 stainless steel, rated for atmospheric pressure. It is heated with steam up to 406°F with two sets of concentric internal coils, and mixes with a 10 horsepower, three speed agitator with a single axial flow mixing blade.

  • MIXING TANKS
  • Two (2) 6000 gallon 304 stainless steel heated mixing tanks.

  • BOILERS
  • A 40 horsepower steam boiler produces steam at 150 pounds of pressure for use in the production facility, for temperatures up to 365°F.
  • A 200 horsepower steam boiler produces steam at 250 pounds of pressure for use in the production facility, for temperatures up to 406°F.
  • A 3,500,000 Btu per hour liquid phase hot oil heater delivers hot oil up to 650°F to reactors in the production facility.

  • VACUUM
  • Steam jet/liquid vacuum pump system capable of producing 2 millimeters of mercury absolute pressure.
  • Liquid ring vacuum pumps capable of producing approximately 4.0 inches of mercury absolute pressure.

  • Auxiliary Equipment
  • Homogenizer, 3000 psi
  • Filter press, 16 plates

  • BULK STORAGE
  • Omega Chemicals, Inc. has two fully diked outdoor tank farms along with additional indoor bulk storage. There are a total of 24 bulk storage tanks ranging in size from 2500 gallons to 18,000 gallons.

  • TANK TRUCK LOADING/UNLOADING DOCK
  • Adjacent to the tank farms and production building is a fully contained and covered tank truck loading and unloading station. The containment area has the capacity to hold 12,000 gallons of material and is connected to a 35,000 gallon concrete holding basin.

  • LABORATORY
  • Omega’s laboratory performs all quantitative analytical analyses required for quality control on all in-process product batches during production. The lab also performs all quality assurance analyses to ensure that only first quality product leaves the plant meeting the customers specifications.
  • The lab also has glass and 316 stainless steel organic synthesis equipment for the development of new products to meet the customer's needs.

  • WASTE WATER TREATMENT
  • Omega Chemicals, Inc. operates an aboveground concrete 80,000 gallon wastewater treatment plant with pre-neutralization, aeration and chemical addition tank. It is aerated with air and mechanical stirrers. The aboveground treatment facility is diked with a 35,000 gallon containment basin connected to the tanker loading/unloading dock. The wastewater from the treatment plant is then discharged to the Spartanburg County sewer system for additional treatment.
